Nordlys & FORTIS

Travel through the seas - Part 1: It`s all about being prepared

Sometimes it is not about being the fastest or being the strongest - sometimes it is about taking a personal risk and starting a great adventure. "Take the chance, set the sails and just go that`s the motto of this journey.

Skipper Patrick and his wife - Co-Skipper Ingrid - grew the idea of travelling the seas. So they got hold of a 40 year old semi-endinged sailing boat which they restored completely within the years from 2014-2017, They also equipped the "Nordlys" with more instruments to prepare for big waves.

FORTIS is proud to officially keep track of their time and to acompany this wonderful journey where it is all about to explore: Exploring countries, seas, people, cultures and of course themselves. To start such a trip not only the boat had to be 100% in good condition. Of course also the crew had to be well prepared and so they learned a lot about safety, medical care, boat and job management.

Already in 2014 Patrick and Ingrid worked out routes they would like to sail. And in 2015 they were launching the boat to a shipyard to maintain the outside. In May 2015 the crew completed a training turn from the Azores to Malaga which equals 1300 nautical miles. Furthermore in Juli 2015 they made a first test turn with the brand new Parasailor.

Finally the cabin got refurbsihed and the Nordlys transferred to the Netherlands where the adventure should start. Read more in Part 2.
